Beth and Chén’s love story began one rainy night and a shared umbrella. It’s one of my favorite stories and it continues with a rustic DIY wedding at Bartram’s Garden in Philadelphia. She got ready with the friends she’s known from her childhood and medical school in Philadelphia. It was beautiful to see these lovely smart women come together for her with a full and open heart. Together with her mother and sister they made gorgeous DIY flower arrangements, boutonnieres, table settings and signage.
To know Beth, you only need to know that not only did she make all the the DIY details but she did her own makeup and her sisters too with surgical precision.
Chén’s father was his Best Man and both Beth’s brothers provided their musical talents for the ceremony. I love that they honored their family’s by making them such an important part of the wedding day.
Buddhist Wedding Prayer
Today we promise to dedicate ourselves completely to each other, with body, speech, and mind.
In this life, in every situation, in wealth or poverty, in health or sickness, in happiness or difficulty, we will work to help each other perfectly.
The purpose of our relationship will be to attain enlightenment by perfecting our kindness and compassion toward all sentient beings.
– Lama Thubten Yeshe
Between the deeply moving speeches to the killer first dance, the reception was perfect. It was a perfect reflection of who Beth and Chén are and we really loved the whole vibe of it.
